Acquiring legal citizenship in the US can be a difficult process and this depends entirely on your legal status. The entire process may be completed in a short period of time or it may take longer if you do not have the exact requirements stipulated in the instructions for immigrants. It is quite easy for immigrants to get their US citizenship as there are many opportunities that make the whole process easier.
The first thing you should know if you want to become a legal US citizen is to gather all information about the various requirements that are detailed in the government websites related to naturalization and immigration. The N-400 form is available in these websites which can be downloaded and printed. To apply for the citizenship one should be a permanent citizen of United States and also should be eighteen years and above for qualifying.
|
The residence requirements include the completion of a minimum period of four years and nine months before the date of applying and if the person already has a green card by way of marriage to a US citizen the time lapse is just two years and nine months. The five year general requirement has many exceptions.
Continuous residence stipulated allows a time gap of a minimum of six months to one year absence time from the country. The applicant should have spent a minimum of thirty months (of the sixty month period) continuously as a resident before his applying date. Green card holders need just eighteen months spent in residence continuously before filing their applications.

The results of the DV-2011 lottery are out. Here’s an important clarification that all applications need to be made aware of at the very outset. You will not receive any intimation via email, nor anything from us. The U.S Department of State Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) dispatches an official letter by regular postal mail to the mailing address provided by you in your application. And yes, selection does not guarantee an entry into the U.S, there is a due process which includes application and qualifying for an immigrant visa.
|
You can check the number of selected winners by country on our results page. If you could not make it for DV-2011, keep your fingers crossed for DV-2012, the applications for which will begin in October this year.

The US Greencard lottery is an initiative by the Department of State to offer 50,000 US greencards to people in countries with low US immigration rates. Countries that have sent more than 50,000 immigrants in the last 5 years, are however not eligible. These include Jamaica, India, Pakistan, Canada, Colombia, and Peru among others.

For the 102,800 applicants selected in the first stage of dv-2010 lottery, the much-coveted US Greencard will not just be a distant dream. Out of these applicants, 50K were selected for the visa interviews
Those interested in being a part of the dv-2010 lottery had to submit an electronic form online, and out of the 13.6 million applicants, 102,800 eligible entries have been picked through a random, computer-generated lottery. However, not all selected applicants will get a visa after the interview process. That is the reason why the lottery picks more than the requisite in the first stage.
|
None of the selected applicants are informed by e-mail, but through letters (postal mail) only. The US greencard diversity applicants, who have not been selected in the lottery, do not receive any confirmation; only the selected are contacted by the Kentucky Consular center. Those who have not been selected are also free to apply again in the diversity visa lottery 2011.

At first glance, the U.S. green card lottery sounds like an exciting chance to make some cold, hard cash. However, this is no simple lottery that consists of scratching tickets or picking numbers. The Green Card Lottery, also known as the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, is run by the United States government. It makes approximately 55, 000 immigrant visas available to people of other countries that have low immigration rates to the United States.
|
An applicant who receives a Diversity Immigrant visa is allowed to permanently live and work in the United States. They may also bring their spouse and any unmarried children under the age of 21 along with them. When granted permanent residence through the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, the cardholder can work at any job and/or start a business.
How it Works
The U.S. Government holds the U.S. Green Card Lottery each year, and randomly chooses about 110, 000 applicants from all qualifying entries. Each region’s entries are individually numbered when they reach the Kentucky Consular Center. At the end of the registration period, entries are randomly selected from each geographic region by a computer. Within each region, the first entry picked is the first case registered, the second entry is the second case registered, and so on. All entries from each geographic region have an equal chance of being randomly chosen.

A counsellor at the United States Embassy, Mr. Michael Evans has warned Ghanaians to desist from fraudulent marriages arranged to benefit from the Diversity Visa (DV) lottery programme.
Fraud marriages, he said, make it harder for legitimate people to get their visas.
|
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, he said the US Embassy takes the issue of fraud very seriously and has made several arrests involving fraudulent marriages arranged to benefit from the DV programme.
“We work with the CID to identify and arrest those involved in perpetrating the fraud”, he said.
All marriages, he said, now undergo careful scrutiny because of the huge number of fraud marriages submitted during the application period. (more…)
