A Permanent Resident Card, commonly known as a Green Card, is evidence of your status as a lawful permanent resident with a right to live and work permanently in the United States. It also is evidence of your registration in accordance with United States immigration laws. The Permanent Resident Card is also called Form I-551.
What Does the Law Say?
Section 264 of the Immigration and Nationality Act provides that, “Every alien in the United States shall be issued a certificate of alien registration or an alien registration receipt card in such form and manner and at such time as shall be prescribed under regulations.”
|
It also states, “Every alien, eighteen years of age and over, shall at all times carry with him and have in his personal possession any certificate of alien registration or alien registration receipt card issued to him. Any alien who fails to comply with [these] provisions shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.”
The specific requirements and procedures for applying to renew an expiring permanent resident card are set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations [CFR] at 8 CFR § 264.5. (more…)

Green Cards are set to become elusive soon. A new move by the US Congress to legalise over 12 million illegal immigrants, including an estimated 3,00,000 Indians, proposes to restrict the current family-based immigration system that many Indian Americans rely upon to reunite with their family members.
While the legislation will open the doors for these Indian Americans to live and work in the US, their future settlement will depend on their education, skills and how they benefit the US economy.
|
This, Indian American groups claim, threatens to affect their interests adversely as it moves away from the family-oriented process, which is currently in place, and puts the parents, children and siblings of citizens and Green Card holders in the firing line. (more…)

How will I know if I won the DV-2008? And when will I be notified?
After the individuals have been selected at random from among all qualified entries through the State Department E-DV lottery computer program, they will NOT be notified by email. Those selected will be notified only by letter through the mail between May and July 2007 at the addresses listed on their E-DV entry. Only the randomly selected individuals will be notified. Persons not selected will NOT receive any notification. U.S. embassies and consulates will NOT be able to provide a list of those selected to continue the visa process.
|
Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) will send the letters notifying those selected. These letters will contain instructions for the visa application process. (more…)

What to Take on the Plane When You’re Traveling
Many people, especially those who haven’t traveled a lot, are unaware that there are some very handy items and tips that can make your trip easier and less stressful. There are a number of things that can help relieve boredom and even ensure that your flight is enjoyable as possible.
|
Number one, take a large bottle of water. This cannot be stressed enough. Dehydration while you’re traveling is common, and since you only get a drink once or twice on your flight, there will be times when you are more than grateful for that water. (more…)

A green card is a life-long visa allowing a foreigner to live and work in the United States. The card itself is a government-issued plastic i.d. card that serves as proof of this permanent resident status in the United States. In size and format, it generally resembles a driver’s license.
|
The official title of the card is ‘Permanent Resident Card’ and as it so happens, the card is not green. The nickname may have come from the symbolic nature of the color green in the United States: Green has come to mean ‘go,’ as it does on a traffic light. (more…)

Green card is the term used to describe a document that gives a person born in another country the right to live and work in the United States. A green card is usually issued to those people who are permanent resident aliens and who wish to eventually become a United States citizen. Once a person has held a green card for almost five years with no legal problems, they are eligible to apply for citizenship or naturalization.
|
There are two main ways to be deemed eligible for a green card. The first way is through your employment in the United States. In this case, the employer of the foreign individual must agree to sponsor that individual. Once sponsored the individual may make application for a green card. (more…)

The green card lottery is where the Department of State annually awards green cards to immigrants. This is a lottery that is done by a random computer selection. |
This is a great way for people that want to become residents of the United States without having to wait for many years. The immigrants that want to apply will have to obtain an application so that they can fill out the necessary paperwork in order to become a legal candidate for this program.
