The growing influx of full-fee paying Indian students is reaping rich dividends for Australia. India is now the second largest source of overseas students and a significant contributor to Australia’s international education market, which is worth A $9.8 billion to the national economy.

In the last one year, as many as 40,010 Indian students have enrolled in Australian educational institutions – 55 per cent growth from the previous year, according to Australian Education International (AEI).

At a recent international forum on Australia-India relations held at Sydney University, Indian High Commissioner to Australia Prabhat Shukla said, “India has world class international institutions, but Indians will continue to look abroad for further studies because the demand outstrips supply.”

A strong case has been put forth to establish an Indian centre of learning at the university that would encompass Indian languages, art, culture and history. (more…)

The Emirate will soon have six new schools to cater to the growing demand for quality education.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority’s (KHDA) newly formed agency, School Agency, unveiled the opening of the new schools for the upcoming academic year 2007-08.

The schools, Repton, three EMAAR Education schools, International School of Arts and Sciences and GEMS World School will start operations from this September.

The Repton School (affiliated to UK-based Repton school) will follow English National curriculum and will be located in Nad Al Sheba. The school will have an initial capacity of 500 students from KG to grade eight and at the beginning of the fifth year, it will cater to 1500 students.

The three EMAAR schools (affiliated to Raffles International of Singapore) will be located in the Umm Sequim area and follow American, British and IB curriculums. Initially, it will have 300 students from KG to grade eight and about 1500 students in the fifth year of operation. (more…)

Cadence Design Systems GmbH (NASDAQ: CDNS), the leader in global electronic-design innovation, in connection with the CDNLive! EMEA User Conference being held in Munich from May 14-15, 2007, today announced it will be launching an electronic-design-automation (EDA) contest for European electronic-engineering students.
The objective of the contest, which is open to engineering students from European colleges and universities, is to identify and to provide early support for students who are working on some of today’s challenges in designing electronics devices.

Those challenges include, among others, reduction of power consumption and decreasing heat buildup in complex silicon chips typically used in automotive and consumer-goods industries. (more…)

Tbilisi State University has serious plans towards Europe – rector Gia Khubua announced at the conference of Georgian Diaspora that the TSU will organize opening Georgian departments in leading European Universities in order to provide studies on mother language to Georgians residing in Europe.

May27 is the international day of Diasporas and over 140 Georgian nationals arrived from 40 different countries to their homeland to participate in various events here..

Khubua said the university would do its best to open Georgian culture, history and language centers in Europe’s several universities.

Members of the Diaspora said they were interested in the proposal, because Georgians residing in various European countries would be able to continue studies in higher universities on their mother language after finishing the Sunday schools. (more…)

Brown University, one of Ivy League universities, is actively recruiting Korean students with high acumen and academic achievement to complement its reputation for excellence.

“We are sending several officials to Korea each year. During the past two trips, representatives from the College Admission Office visited several different high schools,” Ruth J. Simmons, president of Brown University, said in an interview with The Korea Times.

The female president named the schools one by one including Korean Minjok Leadership Academy and foreign language high schools; Ewha, Hanyoung, Yongin, Daewon, Seoul Foreign and Seoul International School. (more…)

Kaplan, the educational and career services provider, and the University of Liverpool have announced an agreement that will establish an international college which will prepare students from around the world to take up places at the University of Liverpool.

Liverpool International College, which will be run by Kaplan International Colleges in close collaboration with the University, will prepare international students for entry to the University’s undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes, giving the students a chance to study in the city before entering the University of Liverpool.

With the first intake of students set to arrive in September 2007, Liverpool International College will provide a full range of programmes designed to prepare students for entry to undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes across a wide range of subjects including engineering, management, science and social sciences.
