Immigration fees are going up, and when the change happens, it could cost up to $1,000 to get a green card. The government said the fees are a necessary evil to help increase service. But immigration advocates say all this does is make things more difficult. The increases will cover a wide range of services, and the government said on average the increase will be 66 percent. But if you take a closer look at the information and schedule of fees, it shows that the four applications that represent a full one-third of filings will jump 112 percent.

The registration fee for permanent status was $395, but the new fee will be $1,010. The fee to renew or replace a green card will go up from $260 to $370.
