What’s required to become an American? Firstly immigrants wishing to become citizens of the US must agree to uphold the United States Constitution as well meet the specific responsibilities deemed as all American. By swearing allegiance to these US principals and thereby becoming a naturalized citizen; certain benefits and privileges are granted in return. In fact as a naturalized American citizen you are afforded the same rights as someone that is born in America.
1) Get a hold of, fill out and submit anN-400 form which is available online or via mail. Do be sure to submit the filled out form to your local government office. 2) After your N-400 form reaches the necessary department and has been reviewed and checked so long as there are no issues an interview will be set up where you will be asked a wide variety of questions including why you wish to become a US citizen and why you should be granted naturalization as well as historical questions, your beliefs and viewpoints on many different subjects. The best way to deal with the interview is to be honest and remain calm. 3) As there is a Citizenship Test which you must take and pass to become a naturalized US citizen do a little research. Questions include the meaning of democracy and the Bill of Rights as well as various US historical facts and basic English literacy skills. However passing the test isn’t too difficult with adequate preparation. 4) Being of good moral character is another vital factor if you wish to become naturalized so any documentation showing your fine disposition and high moral standing within the community is advisable. Put your best foot forward and be completely honest, as honesty is paramount for being granted US nationality status. 5) You will require two standard passport style photos, any necessary translated documents, finger-print dispensation and of course have to pay the various fees to the Department of Homeland Security for processing with your application. 6) It is vital that you attend the interview appointment scheduled and take all documents with you as well as your green card, passport, permits and so on with you. If approved; you will then be asked to attend a ceremony where you will swear an oath and become a US citizen. Then it’s time to celebrate!
