Deportation

Having a citizenship is a privilege granted to US residents. There are many crimes that will void this privilege and lead to deportation.
Legal residency is granted if you win the immigration lottery. Once you are a legal resident you are eligible for applying for citizenship after you have been in the US for a specified number of years.
When an application for citizenship is received by USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration Services), a background check of every individual is performed. A person’s criminal record if found can and will void the ability to receive citizenship or revoke it if discovered after citizenship is granted.

There are many crimes that are the list that will cause revocation or denial of citizenship. This decision is based on how serious the crime is. The form provided to apply for citizenship has a section for declaring any crimes or convictions from the past. There are several crimes that will determine whether you become a US citizen or not.

• Non-declaration of crimes committed will result in rejection. The declaration should include crimes that you were accused of but later removed. This information must be revealed, eventually the truth will be known even if the information is not given. Paperwork related to arrests, court information as well as the amount of time spent in prison must be provided.

• Honesty during a citizenship interview is important. False information given during an interview is considered grounds to be classified as non-moral candidate. If false information is found after your citizenship application is approved, citizenship may be denied and revoked.

• Committing a crime with the intent to hurt a person is serious and can result in denial of citizenship. Crimes of this nature may cause deportation as the individual is a threat to the safety of US residents.

• Fraudulent activity and or destruction of property as well as “bad” intent will also result in not being granted a citizenship.

• If the crime involves illegal drug shipments or use of prohibited substances, citizenship will not be approved especially if the individual is convicted. If convicted in the US for the same crime, deportation may occur.

• People who enter the United States illegally are deported.

• Prohibited activity based on US laws such as prostitution can void a citizenship application as well as current citizenship status. If the crime is repetitive deportation may occur.

• If a person has been imprisoned for a period 6 months more within a period of 60 months may result in loss of citizenship or disapproval of citizenship.

• Individuals who are considered terrorists or have been known to perform terroristic activities are denied citizenship and deported to their Native land.

• Declaration of marital status is another determining factor. Polygamy (the act of having more than one spouse) is considered a crime since this is illegal in the United States. If you have a spouse in another country and are found guilty of having a spouse in the US as well, citizenship and residency may be subject to termination.
There are many other crimes that cause loss of citizenship and possibly even deportation. Most people who are deported are returned to their Native country because of criminal and illegal activity.
