Once you have your US Green Card in hand, visit America’s next great city, Philadelphia. A national magazine has christened Philadelphia as America’s ‘Next Great City.’ The assessment comes in the October issue of National Geographic Traveler. When asked what comes to mind when they think of Philadelphia, a local might say cheesesteak or that scene in ‘Rocky’ when Sylvester Stallone runs up the art museum steps. But the October issue of National Geographic Traveler said there are a lot of other good things to eat in Philadelphia, and you should actually go inside the museum for a look around.

The magazine delved beneath pop culture to reveal the historical, artistic and gastronomic layers of Philadelphia.

The magazine said Philly is no longer the city of ‘gritty urban decay.’ Keith Bellows, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, said Philadelphia ‘has been greatly overlooked.’ He called it ‘the last great opportunity for anyone who wants a terrific urban life in the Northeast.’

The magazine said Philadelphia has a condo building boom and triple the number of restaurants since 1992. And it called Old City the liveliest urban neighborhood between So-Ho in New York and So-Be — South Beach — in Miami.

But Bellows said the city’s self-image still needs a little work. He said, ‘Philly has a little bit of an underdog sense of itself’ and doesn’t even realize ‘how great it is.’
